Wine and Insects

As part of the upcoming Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival, this renowned, Australian winery will be introducing an insect and wine tasting menu that promises to challenge perceptions and tantalize taste buds. Inspired by a commitment to sustainability, owner Luke Tocaciu aims to showcase the harmony between nature and gastronomy. "I really wanted to do something outside of the box," Mr. Tocaciu explained. "It's really about challenging some perceptions and just having a bit of fun … just to get people thinking about the future and edible insects."

The tasting menu, For the Love Of Bugs - Crickets and Cabernet, will feature roasted crickets as just one of the many edible insects, offering a unique pairing with the winery's exquisite wines. In line with their dedication to sustainability, Patrick of Coonawarra recently became accredited with Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, establishing an eco garden with native plants to attract beneficial insects to the vineyards. This innovative approach enhances biodiversity and creates a unique experience for visitors, tying together the vineyard's practices with an unforgettable culinary adventure.
